Dr. Stephen Morgan Jones is the Director General of Science Partnerships within Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC). He is responsible for developing new models of research delivery and the commercialization of AAFC’s knowledge and intellectual property. As of January 2012, he also assumed responsibility for AAFC’s International Scientific Cooperation Bureau. Science Partnerships form the fundamental base from which the department will directly support the Growing Forward initiatives for a competitive and innovative Canadian agri-food sector.
Dr. Morgan Jones has held management positions in AAFC at the Director General and Director levels since 1994. For 10 years as a scientist in AAFC, he specialized in meat science and quality and worked for one year for a large multi-national company. Prior to this, he was an Associate Professor at the University of Guelph. He has published 170 refereed scientific papers and has been recognized through a number of awards. Most recently he received the Friendship Award from the Premier of the Peoples Republic of China for increasing the sustainability of their agricultural systems.
Dr. Morgan Jones holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture (BSc 1972) from the University of Wales, as well as a Master’s Degree in Animal Production (MSc 1973) and a Doctorate Degree in Genetics (PhD 1977) both from the University of Reading in the United Kingdom.
