Mette Gjerskov graduated from the Royal Danish Veterinary and Agricultural University (now integrated in University of Copenhagen) in 1993 with a degree in agronomics.

Mette Gjerskovs employment career began in the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries as Head of Section, and subsequently in National Consumer Agency of Denmark and since as Chief Executive at the Volunteer Centre in Denmark.

From 2002 Mette Gjerskov became The Social Democratic Party’s candidate in the Roskilde nomination district. She entered Roskilde County constituency in 2005 and was a member there until 2007, when she was elected to the Danish national parliament, Folketinget.

In 2011 she was appointed Minister of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries.
