Karin Metzlaff is Executive Director of the European Plant Science Organisation since its creation in 2000. She works with the EPSO members and partners to facilitate plant research in the European science policy agenda by providing advice and recommendations to politicians at European and national level. In addition she organizes conferences, workshops and working groups to bring together top scientists discussing cutting edge science and ideas for future research. Together with Jan Kellmann and national coordinators from already 33 countries she organizes the first international ‘Fascination of Plants Day’ on 18.5.2012 www.plantday12.eu .
Karin represents EPSO in the Initiative for Science in Europe (ISE), the Global Plant Council (GPC) and the European Technology Platform “Plants for the Future”. She was member of the European Commission’s expert group on European Technology Platforms and coordinated a joint initiative of nine technology platforms in the Knowledge-Based Bio-Economy (KBBE) area to foster collaborations of all stakeholders across bioeconomy and which published a vision ‘The European Bioeconomy in 2030’.
She has post-doctoral research experience in Germany and the UK in various areas of biology and a PhD in plant genetics and molecular biology.
