Harald Mauser graduated with M.Sc. and Ph.D in forestry from the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences (BOKU) Vienna, Austria. He started his professional career in the private industry as CEO of a consulting company for environmental and forest surveys. He changed to the research community, working as scientific officer for remote sensing at the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL. Back in Austria, Harald managed the reorganisation of the Austrian Forest Research Centre, and thereafter was appointed as head of this institution. After changing the legal status of the organisation, he was head of the Austrian Federal Research and Training Centre for Forests, Natural Hazards and Landscape (BFW). Currently he works for the Austrian forest-based sector network, focussing on European policy issues.
In addition, Harald Mauser served as member of the KBBE-Advisory Group for FP 7, is Vice-Chairman of the Board of the European Forest Institute (EFI) and Chairman of the Board of the Forest Research Institute Baden-Württemberg (FVA Freiburg).
